In Hpakant Town, known as Myanmar's jade hub, continuous torrential rains caused the Uyu River and In Ma River to overflow, flooding surrounding wards and villages and resulting in thousands of flood victims.

Both in Hpakant Town and the adjacent Lawng Hkang (Lonekhin) Village Tract, riverside residential areas were submerged. A local woman told MNJ that at least five houses were washed away by the roaring floodwaters.

"Many houses were submerged, and in Aunyar Village, five houses were washed away by the water. Heavy rains caused the Uyu and In Ma Rivers to overflow, flooding the residential areas”, he reported.

Nearly all wards in Lawng Hkang are currently submerged, leading most residents to seek refuge in Ward No. 5, which is located on higher ground.

A bridge that linked Sanhkar and Madingyang in Lawng Hkang was also swept away by powerful floodwaters, locals said.

"The bridge connecting Sanhkar and Madingyang, along with the Kaung Pye fuel station, were washed away by the current. The flooding situation around Lawng Hkang has worsened significantly”, a source told MNJ.

Downtown wards of Hpakant, including Myoma, Hngetpyawtaw, Mashikatong, and Ayemyatharyar, are all flooded. Facilities such as free clinics, healthcare support, and provisions of food and medicine have been arranged to assist over 2000 flood-affected individuals, as stated by the president of the local relief group, Kun Foundation, on social media.

In Aung Thar Yar No. 2 Ward in Mhaw Si Sar Village, Lawng Hkang, heavy rain caused water to flow down the hillslopes, flooding the roads and cutting off transportation routes.

Myitkyina, the capital of Kachin State, also experienced a major flood. Although the water level has started to recede, it remains at the danger level, and there is an urgent need for emergency assistance for the flood-affected Myitkyina residents.
