The 1st Brigade of the Chinland Defense Force - Matupi (CDF-Matupi) has urged displaced residents from downtown wards and nearby villages to refrain from returning to Matupi Town in Chin State, citing the potential for imminent military tensions with troops under the Chinland Council.
Despite the successful capture of the junta's bases and outposts in Matupi during Operation Chin Brotherhood (Operation CB), the 1st Brigade has advised residents not to return yet due to ongoing tensions between the Chin armed forces in the region.
“Chin National Army (CNA) troops have not returned to their headquarters at Camp Victoria and remain stationed in Matupi. We have increased security and defensive measures both inside and outside the town due to the potential for aggression based on their statements and actions”, Ko Boi Uk, spokesperson for the 1st Brigade said.
A coalition led by the Chin Brotherhood Alliance conducted a 20-day operation to capture Matupi, successfully taking control of the junta's 304th Light Infantry Battalion, 140th Infantry Battalion, and the largest tactical operations base in southern Chin State.
On June 30, the day after the complete capture of Matupi, the 1st Brigade announced that residents should not return to the town. It warned that clashes could erupt at any time due to the potential for junta airstrikes and ongoing military tensions with CNA.
During the operation to capture Matupi, a fierce battle occurred on June 18 near Phaneng Village between the Chin Brotherhood Alliance and the Chinland Council-led coalition, which included CAN. Both sides suffered many casualties in the conflict.
On June 28, CNA spokesperson Salai Htet Ni stated that Chin combatants loyal to the Chinland Council and the Government of Chinland have not retreated from Matupi and are continuing their military operations.
He mentioned that the Chinland Council remains committed to implementing security and reconstruction efforts in Matupi, and he plans to facilitate the participation of other Chin resistance forces who are willing to join.
“We are reaching out to any CDF factions interested in joining us. Should local armed groups like CDF-Mar, CDF-Zotung, and DCF-Laut express willingness to collaborate, we are prepared to welcome them into our ranks”, he added.
Meanwhile, the process of demining the landmines laid by junta troops in Matupi is currently underway.
During the operation to capture Matupi, the Chin Brotherhood Alliance received combat assistance from the Arakha Army (AA), Yaw Army (YA), and Yaw Defense Force (YDF).
