Junta troops committed systematic arson, in the town of Tedim, northern Chin State on May 27 burning down more than 30 houses.
The Myoma (main) ward near Tedim's central clock tower witnessed two separate incidents of arson by the Junta resulting in extensive damage as no one dared to extinguish the flames.
" Our home was completely reduced to ashes, along with nearby houses. The Junta troops set fire to houses here without any reason, even though our ward is not part of the resistance. The rain finally put out the fire, but it was too late for 30 to 40 houses”, a local said. Luckily, the downpour overnight extinguished the fire while photos of the devastated, charred buildings have emerged on social media.
The fire also ravaged the general administration office in Myoma ward, along with several sturdy two-story buildings and wooden houses.
The Chin Brotherhood Alliance is spearheading an operation to capture Tedim. On the night of May 26, Chin resistance forces initiated an attack on the Junta's military strongholds in downtown Tedim.
Resistance forces have seized control of two Junta outposts surrounding Tedim, along with capturing 9 enemy troops. As a result of the conflict in Tedim, residents have temporarily sought refuge in Kale Township and neighboring villages. Now the military situation in the town has stabilized once more.
