KNSO Ends Ceasefire, Ready to Fight Military Council

The Karenni National Solidarity Organization (KNSO), also known as White Star, has officially joined the armed resistance against the military regime.

After maintaining a ceasefire status for 20 years in the Mawchi and Khemaphyu area of Karenni State, the KNSO Secretary, Saw Thet San, said they announced on April 10 the decision to take up arms against the Burma military. He mentioned that they had been clandestinely collaborating with other resistance groups after the coup.

The armed group declared their intention to combat the Military Council in order to restore peace and establish a federal democracy in the country.

“We upheld our ceasefire agreement out of concern for the potential harm to civilian homes and businesses,” he said. The regime nullified their ceasefire when it initiated airstrikes and artillery assaults on their territory, Saw Thet San said, expressing anticipation of further attacks.

The armed group declared its intent to combat the Military Council in order to restore peace and establish a federal democracy in the country.

Expressing concern for the safety of their people, he advised them to construct bunkers, stockpile food and medicine, and exercise caution when traveling, while offering assistance.

KNSO denounced the Military Council for its atrocities, including arbitrary arrests, torture, and murder of civilians, as well as the destruction of villages and homes.

The organisation originated from a split from the Karenni National Progressive Party in 2002, opting for a ceasefire with the previous military regime. Subsequently, the KNSO, based in Lopua Kho District (also known as Mawchi Region), transitioned into a People’s Militia Force under the Burma army.
