CDF-Tonzang officials have confirmed that the Zomi Revolutionary Army (ZRA) together with Military Council troops raided and captured the CDF-Tonzang Battalion-3 camp situated in Tonzang Township, Chin State.
CDF-Tonzang Chief Zo Mu Mung reported that the ZRA captured the CDF-Tonzang Battalion-3 camp located in Tonzang Township at approximately 3:00 pm on August 31.
"We conducted a short military training session, but the following day, one of our comrades ran away.In light of our mission's failure, we began planning our return with our own squadron. However, we received news that the ZRA had arrived. Swiftly, we distributed firearms to our comrades, and when I instructed my strategic commander to provide them with extra bullets, the ZRA began firing."
Furthermore, he mentioned that following approximately 20 minutes of resistance against the ZRA troops, a comrade from CDF-Tonzang sustained a non-critical bullet wound to his hand, and they managed to retreat from the camp without any further casualties.
However, the ZRA and the Military Council joint forces seized two drones, one 60 mm mortar, one RPG launcher, one 40 mm grenade launcher, 1,000 rounds of AK ammunition, 7 motorcycles, and 20 bags of rice from the CDF-Tonzang Battalion-3 camp.
There are rumors suggesting that the ZRA and Military Council troops collaborated in that battle; however, Khonumthung News has not been able to independently verify this information.
The Zomi Revolutionary Army (Eastern Command) also released a statement on September 1 concerning this incident.
The statement from the Zomi Revolutionary Army (Eastern Command) explains that they conducted a pre-emptive attack due to concerns about the CNF's command intending to harm Tonzang township, posing threats to innocent individuals in the Tonzang area, obstructing students' education, and making repeated threats of attacking the ZRA's Eastern Command.
Additionally, the Zomi Revolutionary Army (Eastern Command) has warned armed forces that have encamped without permission in the Zomi region, instructing them to depart.
The Zomi Revolutionary Army (Eastern Command) has previously destroyed and captured camps belonging to the People's Defense Forces in both Tedim and Tonzang townships in northern Chin State. They have also been involved in confrontations with joint forces of the Chin National Army (CNA) and the CDF.
