ZORO meeting addresses conflict between Chin revolutionary groups

The Chinland Council backed anti-junta Chinland Government met with the Zo Reunification Organization (ZORO) in India to discuss the conflict between the two groups and the Chin Brotherhood Alliance.

The 5 August 2024 meeting was held at the ZORO headquarters near Treasury Square in Aizawl City, Mizoram State, India.

The discussion focused on the fighting and conflict between two Chin State based revolutionary groups, the Chinland Council, who formed the Chinland Government and are allied with it, and the Chin Brotherhood Alliance.

ZORO has expressed its disapproval of the fighting between these two groups in Chin State. It said that the two groups should not fight each other and should, instead, live together as brothers in unity and harmony. ZORO said it was working to promote peace between the two groups.

ZORO President Pu R. Sangkawia said: “We are brothers, and we must not be divided or engage in conflicts with each other. It is important to understand and respect this principle deeply. Since we are brothers who share a common heritage, we also believe that God will eventually bring us together and unite us again in the future. Therefore, it is not good for brothers to engage in conflict, it is necessary to maintain harmony.”

ZORO also said that it was planning to organise a peace dialogue to resolve the conflict between the two Chin groups as soon as possible and to facilitate a resolution and promote peace.

The Chinland Government said that it welcomed ZORO’s efforts to address the problem of conflict between the two Chin groups and that it wants to engage in dialogue with its brothers and live peacefully together with them.

The Chinland Government was formed by  the Chinland Council on 1 February 2024. It has 14 ministries and its prime minister is Pu Pa Thang.

At the meeting, the Chinland Government was represented by Pu Pa Thang, and Foreign Minister Dr. Sui Khar, while the ZORO team was represented by their President, Secretary, and other officials.

The Zo Reunification Organization (ZORO) is an organization based in Mizoram State that is actively working to reunite and bring together all the Chin-Lushai-Kuki ethnic groups under a single administration. Currently, due to the way the British colonialists split their lands, they are spread across three countries, India, Myanmar and Bangladesh.

Previously, on 27 July 2024, ZORO chaired a meeting between the Chin National Front/Chin National Army CNF/CNA and the Zo Reunification Organization/Zo Reunification Army (ZRO/ZRA) to discuss the conflict between the two groups. After representatives from both sides engaged in discussions a preliminary three-point agreement was reached.
