Woman suffers gunshot wounds in Kyauktaw Township

Khin Tharaphy Oo — A woman sustained gunshot injuries in Tin Ma village of Kyauktaw Township, Arakan State, at about 9 a.m. on February 24, locals said.

Daw Myat Wun Yee, 47, was hospitalized with thigh wounds due to shots fired as she went to pasture there, according to a local who asked not to be named for security reasons.

“Her cattle had been tied there for several days. She went outside the village to untie her cattle. She got injuries in her thigh due to the Tatmadaw’s gunfire,” the source said.

Currently, Daw Myat Wun Yee is receiving medical treatment at Kyauktaw Hospital, according to the local.

DMG contacted Colonel Win Zaw Oo, spokesperson for the Tatmadaw’s Western Command, regarding the matter, but it was said that the colonel was busy. DMG also phoned Brig-Gen Zaw Min Tun from the Tatmadaw True News Information Team, but he also could not be reached for comment.

Fighting has persisted for more than 20 days near Tin Ma village, and villagers are worried for their safety, according to locals.

“We’ve heard that both land and water routes have been blocked. So, villagers can have difficulties with food, clothing and shelter,” said U Oo Tun Win, the Pyithu Hluttaw MP for Kyauktaw Township.

The number of civilian casualties resulting from conflict between the Tatmadaw and Arakan Army in Arakan State over the past year has risen to more than 130 civilian deaths and 360 wounded, according to the Arakan Students Union (Universities – Yangon).
