NLD party spokesman Dr. Myo Nyunt confirmed to Mizzima that veteran NLD party member and member of Central Executive Committee (CEC) Aung Soe has tendered his resignation letter to the party.

“He tendered his resignation letter. We are still requesting guidance from party Vice-Chairman (2) Dr. Zaw Myint Maung on how to process his resignation. I can say only this at present,” Dr. Myo Nyunt said.

Aung Soe is also brother-in-law of former Chief Minister of Tanintharyi Region, Dr. Lei Lei Maw, who is currently facing trial for corruption.

The NLD elected its CEC on June 24, 2018 and Aung Soe is the first ever CEC member to tender their resignation.

Aung Soe is currently serving as Chairman of NLD party Tanintharyi Region and party CEC member and also concurrently serving as a member of the Peace Commission. He is also the MP of House of Representatives from Thayetchaung constituency in Taninthary Region.
