Tatmadaw soldier accused of molesting 10-year-old in Rathedaung Township

A lance corporal from the Tatmadaw has allegedly molested a 10-year-old boy in Yay Soe Village in Rathedaung Township, Rakhine State.

“The incident did take place.  I heard that the culprit is a soldier with the rank of lance corporal. Military officials have arrested and charged him yesterday. I heard that he was beaten hard by the captains,” a village elder told Narinjara News.

The lance corporal from the military outpost on the hill in Yay Soe Chaung Village grabbed the boy from behind and molested him when he went to take a bath at around 1 pm on May 16.

“It is true that the incident took place. This case is under investigation after being submitted to the operation command. It is still under investigation. The culprit has been arrested. I heard that he committed the molestation while he was drunk,” said U Aye Than Maung, administrator of Yay Soe Chaung Village.

“A drunken soldier captured the child while he was taking a bath at around 1 pm yesterday and forced the child to do oral sex on him. The child refused so he received an injury on his temple after he was beaten in the head. After the child performed the oral sex, [the soldier] asked him to take his pants off. We are still investigating whether or not he was raped. The child run away,” said the child’s father.

The child needs to undergo a medical examination at the Rathedaung Township Hospital but his parents have been prohibited from filing a case, a village resident said.
