The Mon State Hluttaw Deputy Speaker Dr. Aung Naing Oo has criticized the State Project Commission led by the Mon State Chief Minister Dr. Aye Zan for failing to act on its authorization.

“This commission is silent. We don’t know whether it is truly carrying out using the given authority,” he said.

Dr. Aung Naing Oo said the commission has to release its comments on the investment projects that can harm the environment in the state and sent them to the state hluttaw, but it still has not send them.

According to him, the commission has not conducted field surveys and released its comments on the planned offshore supply base in Inn Din Village Group in Ye Township and a cement factory project, which will be carried out by Myanmar-Korea Cement Co., Ltd near Ni Ton Village Group in Kyaikmaraw Township in the Mon State. These two projects have been permitted by the Myanmar Investment Commission (MIC).

The commission has been assigned to carry out seven duties including the duties to scrutinize and confirm whether the local projects in the state go along with the country’s policy, give its comments on the projects that will be invested in the state, deny the projects that do not support socioeconomic development, and submit the approved projects to the state hluttaw via the government.

The Mon State Minister of Planning, Finance, Immigration and Population U Wunna Kyaw said this issue will be submitted to the commission coordination meeting.

The State Project Commission has been established with 14 members and the Mon State Chief Minister Dr. Aye Zan serves as its chairman.
