A shootout occurred between two junta-aligned militia groups in Muse Town, northern Shan State.
A local reported that on 13 September, around 12:30 p.m., an exchange of fire occurred between the Myoma militia group and the Namhpatkar militia group in Swamsaw Ward, Muse Town.
"Yes, it's true. There was a gunfight between the Myoma and Namhpatkar militia groups, and there were casualties. However, the exact details of the casualties are still unclear,” he told Shan Herald.
Since the coup, the border town of Muse has been largely devoid of law and order, with illegal businesses thriving. A 40-year-old local man noted that gun-related crimes have become frequent.
"It's not unusual for gun crimes to rise when there's a lack of law enforcement. The armed militia groups here are freely operating illegal gambling rings and drug dealings without any interference,” he said.
The current lack of security in Muse, along with the presence of active armed groups, has left locals feeling concerned.
Muse, situated near the border with China, is one of the few areas in northern Shan State that remains free of clashes.
