Shan National Day celebrated at headquarters of two Shan armies

The 76th Shan National Day, which fell on February 7, was celebrated at the headquarters of the 2 Shan armies, the Restoration Council of Shan State/Shan State Army (RCSS/SSA) and the Shan State Progress Party/Shan State Army (SSPP/SSA).

About 3,000 people attended the Shan National Day event held at the Wanhai headquarters of the Shan State Progress Party (SSPP/SSA), SSPP spokesperson Lt. Col. Sai Su told the Shan Herald.

“ There were around 3,000 soldiers and people in attendance. About 1,000 soldiers attended. Today’s program was our General Hso Ten’s speech. We read the messages sent by the political parties. Then we saluted the Shan State flag and our fallen comrades," said Lt. Col. Sai Su.

The Shan National Day was held at the Wanhai headquarters from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

The SSPP/SSA forces did not invite the Military Council, but in the other celebration the Restoration Council of Shan State/Shan State Army (RCSS/SSA) who celebrated Shan National Day at Loi Tai Leng once again welcomed members of military regime led by by Lieutenant General Aye Win of the Military Council.

The Shan National Day held at the RCSS/SSA headquarters was attended by EAOs, PPST members and representatives of the Military Council.

The Tatmadaw sent Lieutenant General Aye Win of the Military Council, Deputy Regional Commander of Kengtung Triangle Region Command, and Deputy Regional Commander of Kho Lam Eastern Central Command.

RCSS/SSA spokesperson Major Sai Kham San PPST members such as the Arakan Liberation Party (ALP), the Lahu Democratic Union (LDU), the Pa-O National Liberation Organization (PNLO), the All The Burma Students’ Democratic Front (ABSDF) attended.

On February 7, 1947, at the Panglong Conference, 7 Saopha representatives and 7 public representatives sat together and agreed to form the Shan State Council to achieve independence together, so that day was designated as Shan National Day.
