The incidents of landmine explosion continue to rock the Rakhine State as one villager from Rathedaung township loses one leg while facing the mine in a mountain this morning.
The victim has been identified as U Aung San Htay (38 years old) hailing from Zaydi Byint village, whose left leg was amputated in the hospital.
Zaydi Byint village administrator informed that Aung San Htay went to Mayu mountain to cut bamboo stems in the morning hours and faced the accident at around 9 am on 1 March.
"The father of three sons went alone and faced the landmine explosion. Now he is recovering in the hospital," he added.
A villager close to Aung San Htay revealed that his left leg was cut off from below the knee, and sadly his right leg is also severely injured.
On 15 February last, 41-year-old U Zaw Moe Lwin (b) Maung Chay from Laungmaw village under Kyauk Taw township stepped on a landmine while collecting firewood near his village (374) and subsequently lost his right leg.
Even though the gunfighting between the junta forces and Arakan Army members has lately stopped, the situation remains tense as many locals have been facing landmines and war weapons in various affected areas.
The poor villagers often face accidents while going to collect vegetables and firewood in the mountains and jungles.
