Yan Lin Aung — A Wei-Ka-Mi villager has been quarantined as a presumptive (suspected) case of COVID-19 at the Thanbyuzayat Township hospital in Mon State, Myanmar.

Dr. Wutt Hmone, a Deputy Health Director with the Mon state Department of Public Health said,  “[We] are monitoring [his] situation because it is in compliance with the level set by the Department of Health. He has been quarantined in a separate ward within the Thanbyuzayat hospital for treatment. His health is getting better today (March 19th). His symptoms are in line with our target level, and we want to diagnose it,” she said.

The patient was working in Malaysia and returned to Myanmar on March 9th. He started to cough and was transferred to Thanbyuzayat Township hospital from Wei-Ka-Mi hospital.

Currently, Myanmar has no COVID-19 confirmed cases, but the Ministry of Health is watching closely as the virus could cause a large outbreak.

According to the Myanmar Ministry of Health and Sports, 150 out of 157 tested cases of Coronavirus have been confirmed negative. However, seven individuals have died.  Five of these cases were confirmed not to have had  COVID-19. Tests are continuing regarding the remaining two deaths.

Currently, COVID-19 has spread to 176 countries around the world, and more than 220,000 people have been infected. A total of 8900 individuals have died.
