Political analyst -2 nd meeting between China’s Special Envoy and Military Council Chairman

U Than Soe Naing, a political analyst, told Narinjara News that the second meeting between the Chairman of the Military Council and H.E. Mr. Deng Xijun, the Special Envoy for Asian Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, may not be different from previous meetings.

“ China as usual, is looking at the situation in order to preserve its interests. We hear about the opening of the Muse trade gates. There are rumours that China will resume work related to the construction of a railway in Myanmar,” he said.

According to the Military Council, H.E. Mr. Deng Xijun, the Special Envoy for Asian Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, and the Chairman of the Military Council, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, met in Naypyidaw on March 6 to discuss domestic issues.

At the meeting, the leaders of both sides discussed China’s assistance in the peace process, including peace talks with ethnic armed groups in the border region and efforts to maintain internal stability.

U Than Soe Naing suggests that “There could not be a more unique situation than this but still he will remain silent about the conflict in Myanmar. However it is generally understood that he came to inquire about what changes will happen in Myanmar in response to the approval of the NDAA by the United States. Also he wants to know how the regime will respond to the opening of the NUG office in Washington. In general, it can be understood that he came to study and speculate on how much their Chinese -interests could be affected.”

China’s Special Envoy, Mr. Deng Xijun, held meetings with the Chairman of the Military Council in Naypyidaw in December 2022. Subsequently, he also met with the leaders of various Northern Alliance ethnic armed forces, including the United Wa State Army (UWSA), National Democratic Alliance Army (NDAA) Mong La, and Kachin Independence Army (KIA).
