A photo exhibition in Mrauk-U titled ‘Anetgha Shwe Myae’ is expected to support campaigns for the Mrauk U archaeological site to get recognition from  UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.

U Kyi Khin, director of Mrauk U archaeological research centre, while speaking to Narinjara News, informed that the event was organised at a place near to Andaw Thein pagoda during  22 to 24 April.

"We had organised the exhibition as a part of our campaigns for the Mrauk U archaeological site to receive the tag of UNESCO World Heritage Site. The exhibition was intended to showcase the importance of historical ruins not only to the people of Rakhine State, but worldwide,” he added.

Photographer Thurin Soe said he was happy to participate in the exhibition. "I am delighted to get the opportunity to exhibit some of my photographs.  I hope that Mrauk U will finally get its due international recognition,” he added.

Organized by the military council’s religion & culture ministry and the Rakhine State council, the exhibition comprised 125 photographs by 124 photographers from Mrauk-U locality.

The final proposal to the UNESCO authority was already sent on 30 December 2021. Now a UNESCO delegation is visiting the site in 2023, informed  Mrauk U archaeological department officials.

On 2 April, a number of government departments engaged themselves in the process of garbage collection in Mrauk U township as an initiative for the UNESCO heritage campaign.

Mrauk U was founded by the great Arakanese king Min Saw Mon in 1430  AD. It was invaded in 1784 by the Burmese king Botaw U Win. Existing for more than 350 years, Mrauk U has rich potentials to get the UNESCO recognition.
