One of two teachers from Buthidaung Township who have been accused under Anti-Terrorism Act has been released from custody due to insufficient evidence, lawyer Daw Oo Than Khin told DMG.

U Nay Zaw Linn from Pyin Chaung village has been freed after a court appearance at Buthidaung Township court yesterday (3 December), but another teacher, U Naing Aung Tun from Kyauk Yan village has had charges brought against him.

 “Naing Aung Tun has to face trial, so he has been brought to trial today,” lawyer Daw Oo Than Khin said.

U Nay Zaw Linn was arrested by a Tatmadaw troop on 5 August on the way to his home after teaching in Thayetpyin village. U Naing Aung Tun was arrested on 10 August along with three other people including Kyauk Yan village administrator. A lawsuit has been opened against them

under section 50 (a) of Anti- Terrorism Act.

Two police officers filed a complaint accusing them of sending information about military troops to the Arakan Army, Buthidaung Township dropped charges against four of the accused including Kyauk Yan village administrator on 27 August.

In Arakan State, a total of 503 people have been accused of having ties to the AA and ten of them have been released, according to Thazin Legal Aid.
