NUG claim attacks in Yangon’s five townships

The National Unity Government (NUG) claim their forces launched attacks over the last few days against the Military Council in five townships in Yangon under the name "Pyan Hlwar Aung Operation'' resulting in casualties on the junta side.

The statement was made by NUG on January 16.

The People's Defense Forces (PDF) attacked Ahlone Township, Thongwa Township, Taikkyi Township, Twantay Township and Dagon Myothit East Township as part of the "Pyan Hlwar Aung Operation."

Members of the Special Task Agency of Burma (STA), a civil defense group, detonated two grenades at the Htoo petrol station, a business pillar of the Military Council, at around 4 am on January 16, destroying the entire petrol station in Alone township.

Members of the Thongwa Youth Force (TYF), a civil defense group, detonated a remote-controlled mine at around 7:30 pm on January 14 near the township EPC office, which had been forcing the collection of electricity tariffs on people in Thonegwa Township and deployed with the support of junta soldiers.

At Ingalar Yard in Taikkyi township, a sergeant and one of the six members of the Military Council were shot dead and others wounded by People's Defense Forces at 7:30 pm on January 11, according to the statement.

Twantay Rangers and local militia members opened fire on members of the Military Council near the General Administration Office at around 7 pm on January 10, injuring several members of the council.

In addition, People's Defense Forces detonated two remote-controlled landmines, targeting members of the Military Council who were hiding near the EPC office, injuring several soldiers on Min Ye Kyaw Swar Road, Dagon Myothit (East) township, at 8 pm on January 8.

PDFs are warning their fellow fighters to take care as the Military Council and its allies are making arbitrary arrests.
