Legislators from Tanintharyi Region legislative assembly have said that lower house MP Khin Zaw from Kawthaung constituency had reportedly urged the party Central Committee (CC) not to give party tickets to 14 legislators from the region assembly who lodged complaints against NLD party Tanintharyi Region Chairman, region government Chief Minister and Planning and Finance Minister, for contesting the 2020 general elections.

Lower House MP from Kawthaung constituency and NLD party central committee member Khin Zaw discussed these matters and urged party CC by representing Tanintharyi Region at a party CC meeting held at party HQ in Shwegondaing, Yangon on February 23 and 24.

The 14 legislators signed and submitted their report on the findings of an inquiry on Tanintharyi Region CM Dr. Lae Lae Maw to President, State Counsellor and NLD party central committee.

In the report, they found that Tanintharyi Region government CM Dr. Lae Lae Maw abused her power by appointing her close relative as her PA, awarding contracts to close relatives without inviting tenders, allotting 400 million kyats for clearing bushes in airport perimeter, awarding construction contracts for building Palaw Town Hall and Naypyitaw Guest House without inviting tenders.

All 14 legislators who signed and submitted the complaint are NLD party members and elected people’s representatives in region assembly but they are not cabinet ministers of the region government.

Mizzima tried to contact lower house MP Khin Zaw to ascertain this fact of urging CC at the meeting but his phone was switched off.

During a recent tour to Tanintharyi Region by State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi, some local people staged a protest demanding action against the region government CM, Tanintharyi Region party chairman Aung Soe and region government planning and finance minister Phyo Win Tun.

The State Counsellor said, “one of the reasons for making the tour is to admonish the region government”, in her reply to a question raised by a local resident.
