On April 26, representatives from the Baoshan Sub-Province of the People’s Republic of China and the Chief Minister of Kachin State a Military Council apointee, held a meeting to discuss improving the flow of trade between China and Myanmar at the Kan Paik Ti border in Kachin State.
According to U Khat Htain Nan, the Chief Minister of Kachin State appointed by the Military Council, the purpose of the meeting was to discuss the goods that would pass through the Kan Paik Ti gate. He informed the Myitkyina News Journal that if the two sides could come to an agreement, they could move forward with the trade.
“The agenda for our meeting included discussions on the import and export of materials between our two sides, as well as any related matters such as the operation of the Kan Paik Ti gate. We also discussed the potential expansion of the Kan Paik Ti road and any issues related to it,” explained U Khat Htain Nan.
The group also addressed various topics including the development of the agricultural, livestock, and commercial zones, as well as plans to upgrade the Kan Paik Ti border gate to meet international standards.
Furthermore, he stated that with the agreement of all national and state-level administrators, the implementation of these measures is set to begin by the end of the rainy season this year.
The Chief Minister said that every citizen will have the legal right to sell any agricultural crops and livestock obtained from Kachin state through the Kan Paik Ti border gate. He also expressed a commitment to establishing a sustainable flow of trade between 2023 and 2024.
“Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, our state has faced significant challenges. Agriculture, livestock, and business activities have been severely impacted. However, as we move past the pandemic, we are committed to redoubling our efforts to strengthen the agricultural and livestock sectors,” he said.
According to U Khat Htain Nan, among those who arrived from the People’s Republic of China were the party secretary of Baoshan sub-province, the party secretary of Tengchong district, the economic director, and a school principal from Baoshan province.They returned to China on April 27.
