Following an attack on its convoy along the Pyay-Paukkhaung road in Bago Region, Myanmar’s military dropped bombs using paramotors on villages near Paukkhaung Township, killing a female resident and injuring two others, according to local sources.
Pyay Underground News (PUGN), which provides local military news reported that on the night of 19 February, three paramotors dropped bombs on Ahine Sauk, Natalin, and Thit Yong Pyan villages at around 10 pm. The attack killed a woman in her 50s, severed her son’s arm, and wounded a 10-year-old boy.
“The Military Council bombed Ahine Sauk and the surrounding villages. A friend of mine was killed in Ahine Sauk. Her son and another person were also injured,” a resident of Paukkhaung said.
The following morning, on 20 February, junta forces continued shelling Ahine Sauk village with heavy artillery, according to locals.
PUGN also reported that the Military Council had labeled Natalin village a military target and forced its residents to evacuate.
Junta’s bomb dropping followed an attack earlier on 19 February, when Battalion No. 3601 of the Pyay District People’s Defense Force (PDF) ambushed two junta vehicles carrying food and ammunition near Paukkhaung on the Pyay-Paukkhaung road.
The PDF reported that both vehicles caught fire and nine junta soldiers were killed. Local news sources also confirmed the incident and the casualties.
In response to the attack, junta forces intensified security along the Pyay-Paukkhaung road, conducting vehicle inspections and roadblocks in Paukkhaung.
Locals have warned travelers to exercise caution when using the route.
Meanwhile, as clashes escalate, Battalion No. 3601 has urged civilians not to transport food, rent out vehicles, or carry goods for junta troops.
