More Bombs Go Off in Muse

Two bombs went off in northern Shan State town of Muse, on the China border, on Tuesday afternoon, according to local sources.

The blasts occurred between streets one and two in Swam Sor ward at around 1:00 p.m.

It is not known who is responsible for the explosions or what their intended targets were.

“It’s confirmed. Two bombs blasted at mid-day today. I arrived there after bomb blast. Nobody was hurt in the bomb blast,” Thaung Tun, who is working with Muse’s Garuna Social Volunteer Team, told SHAN.

Shrapnel hit the forehead of a child after one of the explosions, leaving a minor cut, locals said.

“Bombs have frequently blasted in Muse these days. Normally, bombs go off at night. Now bombs are blasting at mid-day. We are worried that shrapnel will hit local people,” a Swam Sor ward resident told SHAN.

Locals also noted that arrests have not been made following other bomb blasts in the town, such as those that happened on May 11 and 12, and that little is known about why they continue to occur.

Police seized hundreds of bomb detonators from a vehicle at Muse’s Man Weing border gate on Monday.

SHAN repeatedly called Muse Myoma police station for comment on the explosions but received no response.
