Around 45 million baskets of monsoon rice have been produced in the Mon State last year, according to the state agricultural department office.
U Kyi Soe, head of the state agricultural department, said monsoon paddies were planted on over 600,000 acres and each acre produced 65.64 baskets of rice so the total amount was over 44.63 million baskets of rice.
He continued that state’s Department of Agriculture cooperated with Department of Agriculture Land Management and Statistics to calculate the rice production rate.
“The production rate is higher compares to 2016, but this is the normal production rate for the Mon State,” said U Kyi Soe.
Monsoon paddies were planted from June to September last year and they were harvested between November and December, he added.
Thanbyuzayat, Thaton, and Kyaikhto townships produced 70 baskets of rice per acre while the rest of the townships produced 67 baskets of rice per acre.
Over 25.7 million baskets of monsoon rice were produced in 2016, with 66.67 baskets of rice per acre, according to statistics from the state agricultural department.
A farmer from Boe Nat Village of Chaungzon Township said the farmers faced difficulties due to delays in harvesting the paddies as a result of a long post-monsoon season.
