According to officials from the Mon State Liberation Army, the Mon armed revolutionary groups have strengthened their cooperation in response to the public's ongoing demand for greater resistance efforts.
After the military coup, at least six Mon revolutionary groups emerged, including the Mon State Revolutionary Force (MSRF), the Mon State Defense Force (MSDF), the Mon Liberation Army (MLA), and the New Mon State Party (Anti-Dictatorship) [NMSP-AD], a faction that split from the New Mon State Party (NMSP).
The more prominent Mon revolutionary groups, including NMSP-AD, MSRF, MSDF, and MLA, cooperate in military and political efforts to oppose and resist the military junta.
The Mon State Federal Council (MSFC) Chairman Nai Mon Sein stated, "The main Mon armed groups are NMSP-AD, MSDF, MSRF, and MLA. Under the leadership of the MSFC, there have been no formal political discussions among these four groups yet. However, dialogues are happening between them. The potential for collaboration is now about 80%. Each group will continue to operate in their areas as they have in the past. There is some collaboration in military activities, joint training, and information sharing, but dissolving all the groups and forming a united force will take time."
Since the military coup, these Mon revolutionary groups have fought the junta independently; however, by 2024, they began forming alliances.
On the other hand, the Mon public has been calling for all armed groups fighting the dictatorship to unite as one.
An MSRF official stated that the military and political cooperation among the Mon revolutionary groups could soon lead to the formation of a united force.
"On the ground, joint operations have already started. About 70-80% of Mon armed forces are now working together. Everyone is trying to strengthen this cooperation further. A united force could be formed soon. We have also held face-to-face discussions with the MLA. They need some time, but the cooperation with all Mon armed groups has already been achieved. We understand that, as a newly formed group, the MLA needs more time," said Dragon, a commander from the MSRF.
The Mon Liberation Army (MLA) also stated that they will continue to fight the military dictatorship alongside other Mon revolutionary forces until the Mon State is liberated.
"There is no division between MLA and other Mon revolutionary groups. We all share the same goal. We have been coordinating our different approaches and working together. We are steadily implementing our processes with unity and determination," said Min Ma Gha, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Mon Liberation Army (MLA).
Mon revolutionary forces are operating not only in Mon State but also in the Tanintharyi region and Karen State.
It is reported that the Mon State Revolutionary Front (MSRF) and the Mon State Defense Force (MSDF) are primarily engaged in military operations around Ye town and the Tanintharyi Region. At the same time, the New Mon State Party (NMSP-AD) is active in the Mon, Karen, and Tanintharyi areas. Additionally, the Mon Liberation Army (MLA) mainly conducts military activities in the Mon and Karen States.
