Mindat NLD to Proceed with Its Plan to Construct Party Office Building amidst Strong Protest

Mindat Township NLD party will proceed with its plan to build the party office building in the previously designated area, even though some residents have strongly protested against it, said U Hteik Tan, the Vice-Chairman of Chin State Hluttaw.

Some residents in Mindat Town have protested against Mindat NLD’s plan to build party office building in that particular area because the area is said to be a water source. Some residents sent a letter of protest against NLD’s party building project to the Mindat township administration office in January 2019.

“We had applied two places for the office building. But we get none of them. Then, Land Records Department director U Tann Hlaing Moe picked this area for us. Township Administration Office issued us Land Form 105-106. Then, through the district office, we asked the Chin State government to approve our building project. Because we get approval from the government, we start our plan to construct the building. The area is far enough from the water source,” U Hteik Tan said.

Mindat resident Salai Mang Om said, “We heard that Land Form 105-106 has already been issued to Mindat NLD party. Chin State government should not have issued the form since residents have disapproved of the project. As every township in Chin State faces water shortage, the government should carefully preserve water sources by planting trees. If NLD proceeds with its plan, we may have to report or stage a protest.”

Some Mindat residents living in Sanpya Ward have long been dependent on the water source which is in the vicinity of the NLD party building project.
