KIA frontline sources report that the military conducted dropped four bombs using two jet fighters near Mali Yang village along the Myitkyina-Bhamo road in Kachin State. Colonel Naw Bu, the information officer of KIO, stated that the two military jet fighters departed from Mandalay Tada-U Airport around 11:00 p.m. on August 4 and carried out airstrikes at approximately 11:30 p.m.
"Two jet fighters conducted airstrikes from Tada-U, and that information is accurate. There hasn't been any ground combat today. However, yesterday, a military camp where the police were stationed on the Gang Dau Yang withdrew," explained Colonel Naw Bu.
On August 3, there was a clash between Military Council troops and the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) near the village of Mali Yang, where the military carried out airstrikes, and a military camp in Gang Dau Yang reportedly retreated, according to him.
Starting from July 3, tensions have been escalating along the Myitkyina-Bhamo road as Military Council troops initiated military operations towards Nam San Yang. The military also conducted airstrikes around Nam San Yang on July 22 and July 27.
Colonel Naw Bu, the KIO information officer, stated that the Military Council troops are progressively engaging in military operations towards Nam San Yang from Madee Yang, Aung Ja, and Hkara on the Myitkyina-Bhamo road, resulting in an ongoing battle between the two sides.
"The conflict is ongoing, and it's possible that this battle could extend over a longer period. The situation remains tense. The military is launching artillery shells towards civilian areas, so we urge the public to exercise caution," he added.
In 2011, fierce clashes between the military and the KIA in Nam San Yang village forced all local residents to flee their homes. Since December 2018, some individuals have started to return to their homes.
Both armed groups have made a commitment to avoid entering Nam San Yang village and its vicinity, ensuring the safe return of residents to their homes. However, residents have reported that the ongoing conflict stems from the presence of Military Council troops attempting to establish a presence near the village on three occasions: in September 2022, June 16, 2023, and July 1.
The inhabitants from several villages along the Myitkyina-Bhamo road, including those from Nam San Yang village, have once again sought refuge in Myitkyina and Waingmaw.
