Military Junta Launches Offensive in Launglon Township After Maungmagan Police Station Attack

The junta military force, consisting of around 200 troops, is conducting offensives in at least two villages within Launglon Township, Tanintharyi Region.

On 17 August, revolutionary forces attacked the Maungmagan police station in Launglon Township. The following day, 18 August, the military junta forces began their offensive operations and entered the area.

Around 200 Junta troops from Infantry Battalion(IB) 104 and Light Infantry Battalion(LIB) 403 have begun entering the Maungmagan police station on the Dawei-Maungmagan road. From there, they are conducting offensives in nearby villages.

A responsible person from the Launglon People's Defense Force said: “Private karaoke rooms(KTV) in Maungmagan village were set on fire. The next day, the Maungmagan police station was attacked. Subsequently, Junta troops began their offensive in nearby villages. The KTVs were also places frequently visited by junta forces. The people’s defense forces(PDF) set fire to those locations."

According to the complaints about KTVs by the residents, six KTVs in Launglon Township were destroyed and set on fire by the Bahtoo Army on 16 August.

Following these incidents, it is reported that the junta troops launched an offensive on the Maungmagan and Pandetinn villages, destroying local houses.

On August 21, it was reported by locals that while junta troops were advancing into Maungmagan village, they shot and killed a civilian.

In addition to the offensives, junta troops stationed at Infantry Battalion(IB) 104 and the Tawmoe Mountain area are firing heavy artillery into the villages.
