The Military Junta holds talks 5 NCA-Signatory EAOs in Nay Pyi Taw

A delegation from NSPNC, headed by Lt-Gen Yar Pyae of the Military Council, held talks with representatives of the five NCA-signatory EAOs from August 29-31 reported by an official from the NCA- EAOs to the Shan Herald.

The Junta and the National Solidarity and Peacemaking Negotiation Committee (NSPNC) along with five NCA-signatory Ethnic Armed Organizations (EAOs) held a three-day meeting in Nay Pyi Taw

During the meeting with the NSPNC, representatives from the five NCA-signatory Ethnic Armed Organizations (EAOs) were in attendance. These organizations included the Arakan Liberation Party (ALP), Democratic Karen Benevolent Army (DKBA), Karen Peace Council (KNU/KNLA-PC), Lahu Democratic Union (LDU), and Pa-O National Liberation Organization(PNLO).

Karen Peace Council (KNU/KNLA-PC) should not be confused the KNU/KNLA, one of the strongest  Ethic Armed Organisations actively fighting the Junta, that has rejected the NCA as a tool of the coup regime, with all peace talks now effectively moribund.

A political analyst, who chose to remain anonymous, mentioned that in the course of the meeting, there is a possibility of discussing the articles to be amended in the Military Council's 2008 constitution, as well as matters concerning the conduct of elections. "It's not something that can be predicted in advance, but I anticipate the discussion will touch upon the ethnic groups' desired amendments to the military-drafted 2008 constitution, as well as deliberations concerning the peace process for establishing a federal democratic state. The topic of holding elections will be on the table. The Military Council only needs to discuss these things," conveyed an unnamed political analyst to the Shan Herald.

According to sources familiar with the situation, the NCA-signatory organizations Restoration Council of Shan State/Shan State Army (RCSS/SSA) and New Mon State Party (NMSP) did not participate in the this meeting.

As of now, the Peace Process Steering Team (PPST) comprises complete members: the Arakan Liberation Party (ALP), Democratic Karen Benevolent Army (DKBA), Karen National Union/Karen National Liberation Army-Peace Council (KNU/KNLA-PC), Lahu Democratic Union (LDU), and Pa-O National Liberation Organization (PNLO). In addition, the New Mon State Party (NMSP) and the Restoration Council of Shan State/Shan State Army (RCSS/SSA) hold joint membership within the team.

The Military Council had announced a 1-year nationwide ceasefire but their nation-wide military operations escalated and their aerial attacks have reached a new peak in 2023.
