Military Council Won't Talk with Opposition for Being as Organizations

The coup Military Council stated that dialogues could only commence if the oppositions, designated as terrorist organizations, namely the National Unity Government (NUG), the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH), and the People's Defense Force (PDF), commit to ceasing their terrorist actions and release statements denouncing acts of terrorism.

During the 22nd press conference of the Military Council on August 22nd, Major General Zaw Min Tun, the coup Regime’s spokesperson, conveyed this statement.

"In order to proceed with dialogue, the first step is for the designated terrorist organizations to commit to stopping their terrorist actions, and the second step is for them to publicly denounce terrorism before the international community. Without these actions, negotiating with the government is not possible”, he said.

He also warned that the dialogue process won't occur unless NUG, CRPH, and PDF abandon their terrorist actions.

Zaw Min Tun added that while there are no plans to engage in talks with NUG, CRPH, and PDF designated as terrorist groups, the ongoing initiatives to hold discussions with ethnic armed organizations (EAOs) will persist as planned.

"We won't engage in discussions with terrorists. To foster peace, we'll keep conversing with EAOs, convening political party meetings for political stability, and persistently working towards holding elections”, he told the reporters.

On February 1st, 2021, Myanmar Military executed a coup citing voting frauds in the elections and formed the Military Council (officially known as The State Administration Council) as the coup Regime.

Following the military coup, CRPH was established on February 5th by the elected MPs of the National League for Democracy (NLD) party, victors of the 2020 election.

April 16th, 2021, saw the emergence of NUG, a parallel government formed by democratic factions, and on May 5th of the same year, PDF, an armed revolutionary force affiliated with NUG, came into existence.

CRPH, NUG, and PDF were designated as terrorist organizations by the coup Military Council on May 8th, 2021.
