Military Council Revoked Licenses of 3 Mandalay Private Hospitals for utilizing CDM medics

The Military Council has revoked the licenses of three private hospitals in Mandalay for appointing individuals who have joined the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM).

The three hospitals affected by the revocation of licenses are Kant Kaw Hospital, City Hospital, and Palace Hospital.

An employee of a hospital whose license was revoked said, "The closure of the hospital has caused significant distress among its employees. The situation is particularly challenging for the cleaning and security staff, as well as other personnel involved in the hospital's operations."

According to the Military Council, the licenses of Kant Kaw Hospital, City Hospital, and Palace Hospital were revoked due to non-compliance with Article 19(a) of the licensing rules for private healthcare services.

About four months ago, the Military Council issued an order for the temporary closure of five private hospitals in Mandalay, citing the appointment of individuals associated with the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM). Subsequently, on May 15, it was announced that three of these hospitals would have their licenses permanently revoked.

According to the health community, the closure of the three hospitals could result in the loss of nearly 1,000 jobs.

The closure of these hospitals is a result of the decision made during the private healthcare services group (1/2023) meeting convened by the Military Council on February 13, 2023. Their business licenses have been revoked since January 1.

People close to the hospitals have revealed that the Military Council conducted inspections starting from the end of 2022 to check for the appointment of CDM members at renowned private hospitals in Mandalay. As a result, five hospitals were ordered to temporarily close. The hospitals that were temporarily closed at that time were Htet Nay Lin hospital, Sein Pann hospital, Kant Kaw hospital, City hospital and Palace hospital.

According to sources, Kant Kaw Hospital, City Hospital, and Palace Hospital were the three hospitals that had their licenses revoked by the Military Council on May 15, 2023. However, there has been no official information released by the Military Council regarding the status of the remaining two hospitals, Htet Nay Lin Hospital and Sein Pann Hospital.
