The Military Council unleashed an aerial attack using five warplanes above in the areas where the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and People’ s Defense Forces (PDF) are active in Mongmit (Momeik) township in northern Shan state.
Five fighter jets arrived at the Mongmit-based 348th Infantry Battalion on December 7th, and two of them bombed the ridge near Moe Lo village in Mongmit township at least five times.
A Shan State Progress Party/ Shat State Army (SSPP/SSA) official operating in Mongmit told Shan Herald, “The Military Council believed that the KIA/PDF joint forces were hiding around Moe Lo ridge, so they launched aerial bombardments there. There have been fierce battles
around that area before. Now that the Military Council is reinforcing their troops, I think there will be more fighting. ”
On November 28th, 29th and the 3rd of December, there were fierce battles between the coup regime troops and the KIA/PDF joint forces around the ridge near Moe Lo village, resulting in many casualties on both sides.
“According to the list we know, more than 80 Military Council troops were killed during the 3 days of fighting. We heard that they airlifted the casualties and sent them to Mongmit Hospital and the 348th Infantry Battalion. KIA/PDF side also lost about 20 of their comrades”, the SSPP/SSA official in Mongmit said.
After these clashes, the supplies and reinforcements were sent to the Mongmit-based 348th Infantry Battalion. During the battle, some artillery shells landed and exploded near the village, but Shan Herald could not independently confirm the details.
Tensions are rising in the region as coup regime forces prepare for further air attacks and a ground offensive.
