Military Council launched aerial attacks on the KIA territory on the border between Kachin State and Sagaing Division on Nov 21st

The Military Council’s fighter jets attacked in the Kachin Independence Army (KIA)’s 8th Brigade- controlled territory of the upper part of Chaung Wa village in Katha township near the border of Kachin State and Sagaing Division on November 21st.

An official of Katha People’s Defense Forces (Katha-PDF) told KNG that “ 3 fighter jets bombed the upper part of Chaung Wa village near Kwae Kaut Creek in KIA 8th Brigade’s territory starting.”

The PDF member added "I can’t say exactly where the bombs fell. I heard that at least 4 bombs were dropped. And the fighter jets also fired machine guns. The warplanes were flying around Kwae Kaut Creek, which is the area of the KIA 8th Brigade. There are no big villages around there, but only small house-groups and hamlets”, the official said.

KIA’s 8th and 9th Brigades, in cooperation with local PDF troops, regularly engage in clashes with Military Council forces in their controlled areas along the Kachin-Sagaing border.

The fighter jets took off from Tada-U airbase, and a young woman from Kapaung hamlet was injured during the bombing attacks. Investigations are still underway as to whether there are any other injuries.

“ The full details of the situation are not yet known. We can confirm that a girl from Kapaung hamlet was injured in her arm after being hit by shrapnel”, the Katha-PDF official said.

On August 22, the Military Council troops bombarded Bant Bwe Kone village from the air and set it on fire, killing 4 civilians and destroying many houses.
