Military Council Conducts Aerial Bombardments against TNLA

The Military Council’s aerial bombardments against Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) in Namaum village, Muse township, Northern Shan State sparked intense and ongoing clashes.

A villager commented,,"In Namaum, TNLA troops stood strong, dividing their presence into three fortified locations. The morning skies witnessed the Military Council's aircraft launching a fierce assault, then the aircraft turned back towards Kutkai. The echo of shelling persisted until noon, causing some villagers to flee from their homes”’ The air assaults started from 10:30 am until noon on the 25th July,

Beside airstrikes, the Military Council unleashed a barrage of heavy artillery from their battalion based in the 105-mile area. The conflict resulted in significant damage to the village. The village market was destroyed, and several houses were also impacted by shelling carried out by the Junta..

Approximately 20 villagers from Kaungwin village, an adjacent settlement with around 100 houses, sought refuge in the Namaum KBC church compound to escape the escalating clashes. Other individuals from the affected area also fled to Muse and Kutkai Townships.

In the past two weeks, TNLA has deployed around 100 troops in both Namaum and Kaungwin villages, resulting in the escalation of militarisation in the region, a local said.

Namaum is a sizable village situated roughly 18 miles away from Muse township. It boasts more than 1000 houses and is home to a diverse community comprising Kachin, Ta'ang, and Shan ethnic groups, as well as a significant Chinese population. With the Military Council intensifying its military operations along the Kutkai-Muse-Namhkam Road, clashes have not only escalated with the TNLA, but also with the Kachin Independence Army (KIA).
