Kyauktaw hosts sixth Mro National Day

A commemoration ceremony was organised to mark the 6th edition of Mro National Day at Gar Pu village under Kyauktaw township of Rakhine State.

The ceremony, which took place from 7 am to 10 am on 22 March, was attended by nearly 1000 individuals including Mro people from different localities.

Various Mro songs and dances were performed, prior to which the organizing committee chairman delivered the welcome address. He briefly explained about the significance of Mro National Day.

U Maung San Aung, patron of the organization committee informed Narinjara News that there are five primary objectives of theauspicious day.

“Purpose of the ceremony was to remind the younger generation of Mro youths about the abilities of the ancestors as well as to educate them on the history of the Mro tribe, showcase & preserve traditional Mro culture & arts, bring together Mro people from different parts of the

region for the occasion and instill a deep appreciation for their own cultural heritage and fostering respects for other tribes,” he added.

The auspicious day has been organised in different villages of Kyauktaw township for some years.

“We are privileged to welcome the Mro community people from all walks of life (including youth, elders, dignitaries and students) for the celebration. We always work for the successful organization of  annual celebrations,” said Daw San Ma Nyo, a Mro woman, who attended the

event.

Primarily habitants of Ponnagyun, Kyauktaw and Mrauk-U townships of Rakhine State and Paletwa township of Chin State, the Mro people have been experiencing difficulties in their livelihood because of the ongoing military conflicts in the region.

Rakhine State in western Myanmar has an estimated population of 3.4 million people, where 30000 to 40000 individuals belong to the Mro community.
