The deputy chair of the Kachin State People's Party (KSPP) said a recent meeting with the National League for Democracy (NLD) in Myitkyina was attended by KSPP members who weren’t selected by the Kachin party’s central executive committee (CEC), therefore not representative of its interests.
Deputy Chair Gumgrawng Awng Hkam told NMG because the NLD decided to meet only candidates who were elected and not representatives chosen by the party's CEC a day earlier they didn't represent the “opinions” of the KSPP.
KSPP Chair Dr Manam Tu Ja, Sam Awng and Lamar Naw Awng met with NLD's central executive committee secretariat team led by Dr Aung Moe Nyo on January 1.
After the meeting, Dr Aung Moe Nyo told media outlets they discussed equality, self-administration, building a federal union and appointing ethnic representatives in the government.
Dr Manam Tu Ja said the secretariat team will report the discussions to its headquarters and there could be more meetings with the Kachin parties.
Others that joined the meeting included Shwe Min and U Shwe Lay from the Lisu National Development Party and Hkaw Ting from New Democracy Party- Kachin. Nan Khin Htwe Myint and N'hton Kham Naw Sam were the other two members from the NLD’s secretariat team. Kachin State Chief Minister Dr Hket Awng also joined the meeting on New Year's Day.
