KNPF, KNLA joint-forces seize meth pills and arms in Kawkareik Tsp

A joint team of the Karen National Police Force (KNPF) and the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) seized over 300 yaba (methamphetamine) pills and three percussion lock firearms and arrested the owners in Kawkareik Township, Kayin (Karen) State on January 21.

The joint team conducted a surprise inspection at Hpan Khar Kone Ward in Aung Hpa (An Hpa) Gyi Village under Aung Hpa Gyi Village Group at around 2 PM and seized 320 methamphetamine pills and two percussion lock firearms at the home of Maung Anyein Tin, also known as Kyaw Tauk, and his daughter Nan Tin Tin and one percussion lock firearms at the home of Saw Dar Baung, according to Doopalaya District’s deputy police commander Major Saw Mu Kaw Soe.

“We brought Hpan Khar Ward Administrator along when we made the arrest. First, we found the items at Kyaw Tauk’s home. The father and daughter admitted to selling drugs. Then, we found Dar Baung using drugs. We seized a percussion lock firearm at his home,” he said.

The joint team also seized over Ks 500,000, a watch, two daggers, and a lighter, a cigarette box, a bamboo straw, and a paper straw, which are equipment for drug use.

The local authorities will continue to search for drugs since drug trafficking and usage bring negative consequences to the public. Actions will be taken against the arrested persons under Kawthoolei drug law and criminal law.

“The drug issue brings negative consequences from all sides to the local residents. Especially, it destroys the future of youth. So, I hope such kind of arrests will aid in eliminating drugs. We will work for the benefit of our area in any way we can,” said Saw Aung Nyunt, administrator of Hpan Khar Kone Ward, who accompanied the joint team during the surprise arrests.

Twenty-two village groups are located under the Karen National Union (KNU)-controlled Kawkareik Township and this is the first time the methamphetamine pills and arms were seized in Aung Hpa Gyi Village Group.
