Leaders of the Kachin Independence Organization (KIO) and the Tatmadaw met in Dali of Yunnan Province in China while fighting is flaring up between the two armed groups.

A delegation led by the KIO’s new chairman Gen N’Ban La and the Tatmadaw delegation led by Lt-Gen Tun Tun Naung, commander of No. 1 Bureau of Special Operation under the Ministry of Defence, met in Dali with support from the Chinese government.

This is the first time Gen N’Ban La is meeting with the Tatmadaw leaders after swearing in as the new chairman of the KIO on January 27.

The Tatmadaw and the Kachin Independence Army (KIA), the military wing of the KIO, have been fighting nearly every day on the three main roads of the Kachin State, Namhkan-Kai Htik-Bhamo Road, Myitkyina-Putao Road, and Myitkyina-Tanai-Ledo Road, since December.

The Tatmadaw has been launching strong attacks against the KIA using a multitude of military forces as well as helicopters and jet-fighters.
