On the morning of March 10th, the Military Council carried out an airstrike on the 6th Battalion's area, under the 9th Brigade of the Kachin Independence Army (KIA), causing damage to several buildings located at a camp of the battalion.
According to a source close to the Kachin Independence Army (KIA), at approximately 1:00 AM, two Military Council jet fighters carried out at least four airstrikes, causing damage to the battalion's camp facilities. The source reported that the kitchen and several halls within the 6th KIA battalion camp were among the structures affected by the bombing.
"Although the building with cars, hospital, and three kitchens were damaged, the number of people injured was fortunately not significant due to their prior awareness of the incoming planes, enabling them to evade any potential harm”, he said.
The source added that the aerial bombardment not only caused damage to some parts of the camp but also resulted in at least three KIA soldiers sustaining serious injuries.
The targeted camp is a new base that the 6th KIA Battalion moved to at the end of 2022, and it was the first time it faced an air attack.
Prior to the relocation, the 6th Battalion's base was situated near Kan Si Village in Hpakant Township. However, the battalion moved to the new camp following an aerial bombardment incident that occurred in the A Nang Pa area on October 23rd.
Sources have reported that the Military Council has carried out aerial bombardments at least six times this year on the 26th and 6th Battalions, both of which belong to the KIA 9th Brigade based in Hpakant.
The Military Council aims to counter the frequent attacks by the KIA on their camps in the Sezin region of 6th Battalion and gain greater control over the Hpakant region through increased airstrikes.
