The Kachin Independence Army (KIA) Brigade 2 (Battalion 14) attacked a People's Militia Force (PMF) camp in Hpakant Township for about four hours in the early morning of 11 August, causing some casualties on both sides.
During the battle, the Burma Army (BA) Infantry Battalion 297 shelled the KIA troops with artillery from Jahtuzup. After the violence ended, regime soldiers checked every house in San Pya, where the PMF camp is located.
Min Thant Zin, the leader of the PMF, set up his camp on a former plot of land owned by Yuzana Co Ltd, which is closely linked to the military regime in Kachin State.
Recently, KIA troops also attacked BA in Sel Zin, after which the junta soldiers fired artillery at them and burnt down some houses in the village.
