Local revolutionary forces and the Kawthoolei Army (KTLA) have indefinitely blocked the Thai-Myanmar border trade routes, Dawei-Htee Khee Road and Hton Khar-Maw  Daung Road, in the Tanintharyi Region.

The revolutionary forces have advised the local people to report any suspicious activities of the Military Council in these areas to the nearest revolutionary unit and abide by their instructions.

An official from the Kawthoolei Army (KTLA) explained, "Primarily clashes have erupted between the Military Council troops and our defense forces. The Military Council troops have resorted to hijacking civilian cars and disguising themselves as civilians, prompting us to take measures to block traffic for safety reasons," said an official from the Kawthoolei Army (KTLA). Since July 16, the Dawei-Htee Khee and Hton Khar-Maw Daung roads have been indefinitely blocked by revolutionary forces.

According to some Dawei residents, the Dawei-Htee Khee road, which has been blocked since July 17, was inspected by joint forces of KTLA  and most of the border cargo trucks were turned back to Dawei township as a result of the inspection.

"All vehicles are being thoroughly inspected, and they are forcing them to turn back towards the town. There are no viable travel options available due to these stringent measures,"  said a trader from Dawei Township.

Truck drivers from Maw Daung township reported that the Hton Khar-Maw Daung border trade road in Tanintharyi township was also temporarily closed. Consequently, a significant number of trucks found themselves stranded in Tanintharyi and Maw Daung townships due to the closure of the road.

As a consequence of the closure of the border trade routes, there is a concern among the local people that the prices of Thai goods, which are commonly used in the region, may rise. The road closure has made it difficult for the local residents to travel, further adding to hardships faced by the community. "If the road stays blocked for a long time, Thai goods may become more expensive," a trader from Tanintharyi township said.

The Junta blocked the Dawei-Htee Khee road from April 2022 until mid-November due to conflicts with the local PDF, KNU Brigade 4 KNDF, but travel was permitted again in December 2022.

In Tanintharyi township, the Hton Khar-Maw Daung road was closed for a month and a half from March 2023 to April 2023 due to clashes between the Military Council troops and the joint forces of Kawthoolei Army (KTLA) and local PDF. The road was reopened at the end of April 2023.

Currently the fighting between the Military Council troops and the revolutionary forces has resumed, resulting in the blocking of these parts of the road once again.
