Kawlin Town's Key Strategic Points Recaptured by Junta

Kawlin Revolution (KR) announced via social media that the coup Military Council troops have reclaimed the strategic points in Kawlin town, Sagaing Region, previously held by resistance forces.

On February 3rd, an estimated 1,000 Junta troops, divided into six columns, initiated an offensive operation targeting Kawlin. The Military Council bolstered the offensive with airstrikes and howitzer shelling, while Junta bases encircling Kawlin relentlessly bombarded the resistance forces within the town using diverse artillery batteries.

By around 8:00 am on February 13th, the Military Council successfully regained control over the majority of Kawlin's strategic locations.

According to KR’s statement, following February 8th, Junta troops notably escalated their offensive, with both ground and aerial assaults intensifying significantly.  On February 10th, the Junta troops bombarded downtown Kawlin with artillery, resulting in the burning of homes. They also doused a local man with gasoline and set him on fire, causing burns and injuries, with local defense forces providing him with medical care, as reported by KR.

Residents in Kawlin have been pre-emptively evacuated to safety. Juntal soldiers have also set fire to villages near Kawlin, including Zeekhon, Gonnyinsho, Waryonkhon, and Santawyar.

The Military Council troops commenced their advance towards villages situated in the northern and southern outskirts of Kawlin on February 1st, with skirmishes erupting between both sides three days later.

Some resistance comrades noted that the Military Council made extensive efforts to recapture Kawlin due to its pivotal logistical significance for transporting essential supplies to frontline battlefields. Kawlin, which was captured by the resistance forces on November 5th, has now fallen back into the hands of the Military Council.
