Karenni National College holds graduation ceremony in Karenni State refugee camp

A graduation ceremony was held on April 6 th at Karenni Refugee Camp No. 1, to award diplomas to 115 students who had completed their studies at Karenni National College (KnNC), a higher education institution that was established in the camp.

KnNC was established in 1995 under the supervision of the Karenni Department of Education. For the past 28 years, KnNC has been providing significant educational support to Karenni youth, ensuring that they receive a quality education. So far more than 2,000 students have attended and studied at KnNC.

Ninety-five percent of the students who have completed their studies at KnNC are making valuable contributions to their communities by working in fields such as education, women’s affairs, youth affairs, and health.

At KnNC, students can pursue one of four majors: Community Development, Social Science, Information Technology (IT), and Science. Additionally, they can take courses in a variety of other subjects, including Karenni Literature, History, Gender Issues, Natural Environment, Human Rights, Democracy, and Federal System.

According to Elizabeth Maw Mi Mar, the principal in charge of the college, KnNC currently offers three-year diploma courses, but starting next year, it will expand its offerings to include four-year Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degrees.
