Locals Claim Burma Army ‘Disappeared’ Shan Villager

The Burma Army has kidnapped and tortured a man from Wan Kawn Yao, Shan State, local villagers claim.

The villagers have written a letter to the local Burma Army commander demanding the return of the man, named as 33 yer-old farmer Sai Thein Tun.

The villagers claim that Sai Tun was kidnapped on September 10 this year while on his way back from his farm, and that the Burma Army soldiers carrying out the kidnapping physically abused him by kicking his head.

“On September 10, 2015, between 12:00-1:00 pm, troops from (Burma Army) Infantry Battalion 12 from Loilem and Battalion 246 from Nam Sang, beat and kicked Sai Thein Tun, covered his head with a gunny bag, and forced him to go with them,” the letter, delivered on October 5, states.

The villagers also accused the Burma Army soldiers of looting the small village, which has around 50 houses, taking away residents livestock and valuables.

Sai Tun’s current whereabouts are unknown and his relatives and friends hold fears for his safety.
