A Tatmadaw official has pledged to do what he can to secure the release of two detained Karen National Union soldiers.
The Bago Region Joint Ceasefire Monitoring Committee met on May 9 to try to resolve the issue as the soldiers have continued to languish in prison for over two months.
According to Saw Lin Aung, a member of the committee from the KNU Brigade 3, the soldiers were arrested in March for taking photos of a military base in Leiktho, Thandaunggyi township.
Committee chair Major General Myat Kyaw said he will try to resolve the issue, said Saw Lin Aung.
P’doh Saw Eh Wah, chair of the KNU’s Taungoo District, told KIC News that the KNU is frustrated as it immediately called for the release of the detained soldiers, but to no avail.
“They detained two kids who were assigned by their superiors to document the area by taking photos,” he said. “We have made several requests for their release. They said they will release them but it’s been over two months now.”
