Kachin State Hluttaw approves proposal to upgrade Kanpaiti circular road

The 13th Kachin State Hluttaw has approved a proposal to upgrade the circular road in Kanpaiti, a town at the China-Myanmar border in the Kachin State, with concrete.

U Naw Li from Waingmaw Constituency -2 submitted the proposal to the state hluttaw.

“Kanpaiti is a border town in Myanmar. It shares border with China. When one passes through the tunnel of Kanpaiti and reaches the other side, it’s very different from our country so one feels inferior when he or she comes back to this side. It’s the country’s image. I’ve submitted this proposal because nothing has been carried out for Kanpaiti within eight years since 2010 even though our country has become a democratic country,” he said.

U Naw Li met with Kanpaiti residents three times in 2016, 2017, and 2018 and the local residents have demanded the upgrade of the circular road as a concrete road during each meeting so he decided to submit the proposal.

Kanpaiti is a border trade town in Waingmaw Township, Kachin State, which shares border with Tengchong of Yunnan Province, China. It was neglected by the previous government so the existing government has decided to upgrade the circular road.

Kanpaiti does not generate income from the municipal affairs so the road upgrade will be carried out with the state government’s budget in the upcoming 2019-2020 fiscal year. An estimate budget of Ks 300 million will be spent on upgrading the 5,400 length road.
