Junta aircraft bombed villages in Mindat Township, southern Chin State three times in four days from 6 to 9 September 2024, despite there being no fighting in the area.
On 6 September, a junta aircraft bombed Shein Village in Sub-township No. 4, injuring one civilian.
On 7 September, the junta bombed the road section between Chat Village and milepost No. 37 in Sub-township No. 2. During the attack, the junta dropped two 500-pound bombs and eight 200-pound bombs, causing damage to the road and surrounding areas.
A displaced woman sheltering in Mindat Township said: "The bombs exploded on the roads outside Chat Village, causing damage to the road and surrounding area, but no civilian casualties. Despite the absence of any armed clashes in the vicinity, the junta has been conducting indiscriminate bombings with no apparent reason.”
She also said that whilst junta airstrikes had previously targeted internally displaced people (IDP) camps, they had more recently been targeting resistance force positions.
On 9 September, a junta MiG-29 aircraft dropped a 500-pound bomb and three smaller bombs on Sub-township No. 3.
According to a 6 September statement from the National Unity Government (NUG), in the two weeks from 27 August to 6 September 2024, junta airstrikes killed 40 civilians across seven states and regions in Myanmar, including Chin State.
The NUG statement denounced the junta as a criminal and terrorist entity for its deliberate airstrikes on civilians in areas where there is no fighting, and said that it had committed war crimes and crimes against humanity and vowed that the NUG will relentlessly pursue the junta until it faces justice.
