Junta Arrests 5, Including President of Laming Youth Relief Group

U Win Aung, president of the Lamaing Youth Civil Society Emergency Relief Group in Ye township's Lamaing town, Mon State, and four other members are being detained and interrogated by the Junta, according to a source close to the group.

On May 29, an officer from the Junta's 588th Light Infantry Battalion was injured in a traffic accident and transported to Mawlamyine Hospital by the Lamaing Youth Civil Society Emergency Relief Group's ambulance. Resistance forces intercepted the vehicle on Ye-Thanbyuzayat Road and arrested the injured officer.

Upon stopping and inspecting the ambulance, resistance forces discovered the patient was a Junta officer. They let the three young group members go but arrested the officer.

Following the incident, Junta troops raided the civil society group's office and arrested three young members. U Win Aung and the group’s secretary, who went to the Junta battalion to resolve the issue, were also detained.

All five individuals are still being held by the 588th Light Infantry Battalion and have not been released as of June 5, sources close to the group told Than Lwin Times.

In the aftermath of the coup, civil society and charity groups in Mon State faced targeted repression and arrests by the Junta, resulting in the imprisonment of two members from organizations based in Mudon and Thanbyuzayat.

As per a June 4 report from the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP), a staggering 26800 individuals, including anti-Junta protesters, activists, politicians, and civilians, have been arrested across the nation since the coup.
