Junta airstrikes on a village of Southern Arakan state with a fighter jet, 2 displaced persons killed, 20 injured

The junta forces carried out a series of airstrikes on Kha Yaing village under Taungup township, located at southern part of  Arakan State, which killed two internally displaced persons (IDPs) and injured more than  20 others.

The victims have been  identified as Maung Kyaw Thet Naing (18 years old) hailing from Say Yone ward of Taungup town and Daw Ma Thein (72) from Thar Yar Aye village.

A male resident from Taungup informed  Narinjara News that both the displaced individuals were killed and several others injured when a fighter jet conducted airstrikes at around 4 pm on 1 December."There was no fighting in the area and local residents were living peacefully in the village which was targeted by  a fighter jet," he added.

Due to the junta’s strikes, at least four bombs fell in and around Kha Yaing village, which destroyed many houses and compelled the villagers to flee, stated another resident.

"Almost all the houses of the village were destroyed. The villagers felt panicky and fled," he added.

From 1 to 21 November, the junta forces killed 49 people across Myanmar, with the highest number of fatalities occurring  in Arakan State, said a statement from the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP) on 22 November.

Currently Taungup urban areas are being  controlled by the Arakan Army (AA). An intense fighting erupted at MOC-5 alon with two subordinate units namely 436th and 544th light infantry battalions.
