Junta Airstrikes Destroy Over 50 Houses After 7 -Hour Battle with

Junta aircraft bombed Myaukchaw village in Yebyu township, Tanintharyi Region, burning down over 50 houses, according to Nai Naga, spokesperson for the Mon State Revolution Force (MSRF).

During a  7-hour battle that began at 8:00 am on June 19, the Junta bombarded the combat zone with artillery and aircraft, reducing half of Myaukchaw village's 100 houses to ashes.

On the morning of June 19, two strong columns of Junta soldiers advanced towards villages controlled by resistance forces in Yebyu township, simultaneously launching heavy artillery fire.

Nai Naga, the Mon State Revolution Force (MSRF) spokesperson elaborated, “the fighting intensified as the resistance allied forces responded with mortars and drones.

When the enemy attacked, we responded. Around 3- 4 hours after the battle started, enemy jet fighters took off from Myeik and launched four airstrikes around the combat zone. Some bombs hit Myaukchaw village, even though it was not involved in the fighting, causing houses to catch fire”.

He estimated that there could be around 30 casualties from Junta troops. Among the resistance forces, there were 4 non-life-threatening injuries.

After experiencing setbacks, Junta troops fired warning shots and returned to Myaukchaw village, where they are deployed. They attempted to transport their wounded, but resistance forces had surrounded and blocked the village, preventing them from doing so.

The Junta launched an offensive from Yebyu with about 400 troops on June 7 to retake the Ye-Dawei Road section, which it had lost control of since the end of last year.

Nai Naga added “As of June 20, the enemy side is inactive with no movement. They remain camped in the village, and their strength is considerable. According to locals and our intelligence reports, it is estimated there are around 400 of them”, Nai Naga added.

As a result of the Junta's offensive, frequent fighting has been occurring around Rar Hpu village until June 19, prompting thousands of locals to flee their homes.
