Junta Airstrikes Destroy More Than 200 Homes in Two Villages of Sittwe and Kyaukphyu Townships During Ongoing Combat

Junta troops conducted drone strikes in U Gin village in Kyaukphyu Township and Wah Bo village in Sittwe Township, Arakan State, resulting in the destruction of over 200 homes.

Local residents stated that more than 140 homes were destroyed when junta troops dropped bombs from drones on U Gin village at approximately 1:00 pm on March 6.

A military source affiliated with the Arakan Army (AA) also verified that 35 homes were demolished following the bombing of Wah Bo village in Sittwe Township by junta forces using drones.

A local source informed Narinjara News that the bombs dropped on U Gin village led to the burning of numerous homes because of the extreme heat from the sun.

“They conducted drone bombing strikes, and the scorching sunlight propagated the flames. Approximately 140 homes have been obliterated thus far, and they continue to burn,” the source stated.

As combat escalates close to the Dhanyawadi naval base, residents from over a dozen villages, such as U Gin, Kat Tha Pyay, Pyar Te, Shauk Chaung, Sae Maw, and Kyet Tain, are escaping. Concurrently, junta forces persist in executing drone attacks, artillery bombardments, naval shelling, and aerial strikes on these villages.

The source noted that there were no injuries reported in U Gin village when the homes were destroyed, as the inhabitants had evacuated beforehand due to the fighting.

"There were no injuries since the nearby inhabitants had already evacuated. I can't envision what might have occurred if they hadn't. Junta soldiers are carrying out military activities close to U Gin village,” the source said.

Junta military columns are restarting operations and assaulting villages close to the Dhanyawadi naval base in Kyaukphyu, resulting in fierce confrontations with the Arakan Army (AA). The junta forces are still carrying out drone bombings, naval bombardments, and artillery strikes.

A male inhabitant of Sittwe informed Narinjara News that the junta's ongoing drone strikes on Wah Bo village on March 6, near 7:00 am, led to the destruction of 35 homes by fire.

“The drone strikes began at 7:00 am and concluded at approximately 9:00 am. We observed homes ablaze, and we can verify that 35 houses were destroyed,” he stated.

The inhabitants of Wah Bo village had previously evacuated to a secure location.

On February 26, airstrikes by the junta targeted Wah Bo village, resulting in the destruction of at least 10 homes.

A community member reported that junta installations in Gant Gaw Kyun village and Zaw Ma Dat village, situated across from Wah Bo village, have been shelling nearby villages, including Wah Bo, on a daily basis.

“The junta base in Gant Gaw Kyun village, across from Wah Bo village, is launching artillery shells at the villages. There is currently no combat; it is shooting independently,” he stated.

The junta’s base in Gant Gaw Kyun village houses hundreds of troops, including Muslims trained in the military.

Junta troops are deployed in multiple junta-governed villages in Sittwe Township, such as Ah Myint Kyun, Par Da Leik, Yae Chan Pyin, Zaw Ma Dat, Gant Gaw Kyun, and Kyar Ma Thauk, where they are protecting themselves from the Arakan Army (AA) assault.
